An Ultrasound 1,000s of Miles Away

I have the utmost respect for the military and everything they stand for. In fact, I LOVE the military. I often wonder what it would be like to live far away from your family for months on end. I could not even imagine. My husband travels for a living and for the most part is only gone for 2-3 days. Can you imagine being away from your loved ones for 9 months? 1 year? 2 years? Knowing they are risking their lives every day and often unable to speak to them for long periods of time. Always having that “feeling” and never fully feeling comfortable with life. The military men and women sacrifice so much for this country so we can live our lives in freedom. I don’t have a strong family background of military men and women; however, when I see someone who is, I try to thank them for all their hard work and dedication. I truly admire their courage that you don’t see every day. In fact, my husband has made sure when our two sons see them in their uniforms they say “thank you”. You don’t realize how much they miss out on their family’s lives until you experience it first-hand.

My first-hand experience happened a couple weeks back when I had the opportunity to scan a patient whose dad is stationed in Egypt. She came to me at 16 weeks to do a gender scan and asked if we could Skype in her dad while he had a few minutes. I loved this idea!! How great for her father to see his grandchild when he is thousands of miles away. He could hear the baby’s heartbeat, see the baby move, and be able to take part in this joyous time of finding out what the gender of his next grandchild would be. You could feel the love in the room knowing he has able to participate. It is so great what technology can do these days and crazy to think what our lives were like without Skype and FaceTime. This was an incredible experience and I am very blessed they allowed me and my business to have been a part of it.
